Vensia vs Aaru: Research for Pricing Decisions

A pricing example connects modeled choice shares to a contribution threshold, with the study outputs and validation evidence to inspect.

A charcoal buyer and a graphite-outline counterpart inspect the same product forms on matched tables.

Compare Vensia and Aaru on the audience, complete offers, response detail and commercial threshold your pricing decision requires. For a refill priced at $18 or $22, preference alone will not tell you which price contributes more. Vensia offers managed research with data-grounded simulated audiences and an interactive report for examining segment choices and reasons.

Aaru also offers population simulation for product, price and campaign questions. Its published methodology and evaluations merit inspection. The useful choice is the engagement that connects the right population and output to your pricing decision.

The research each team would deliver

Aaru describes its simulation method as constructing populations from public and licensed information about how people live, work and spend, with customer data available as an additional input. Its product addresses changes in products, prices, messages and other conditions. A simulated population's reaction is a model output, even when the underlying data includes observed behavior.

At Vensia, we ground simulated audiences in purchase histories, behavioral information, demographics, surveys and public conversations. Customer data and earlier research can add context. Our team builds the population, runs surveys, qualitative interviews or comparison tests, and returns results with segment comparisons and recommendations. Our audience-building guide explains that process and the responses you can inspect.

Compare the same complete offer

Consider Northline, a fictional laundry brand preparing a limited online test of a concentrated detergent refill. The same 60-load pouch could sell for $18 or $22, with $4 shipping, no subscription and identical product claims. The team wants to select a price to test with customers.

Send both providers the same audience definition: US adults who buy their household's laundry detergent online, with current brand, usual spend and refill experience identified where relevant. Exclude people who do not make the purchase. Include the full offer and a realistic option to keep buying their usual detergent or buy nothing.

The requested output should specify:

  • The modeled share choosing the refill, their usual alternative or neither at each price, with the eligible base beside each share.
  • The difference between the two price conditions, using the same audience definition and product presentation.
  • Comparisons for first-time refill buyers and existing refill users, if those groups will change the commercial decision.
  • Explanations of price, performance and convenience concerns, clearly identified as simulated responses.

The higher price needs a lower volume threshold

The two prices need different unit volumes to earn the same contribution. For this example, assume an $8 variable product cost per pouch, shipping charged at cost, and no difference in advertising or acquisition costs. The $18 price contributes $10 per unit; the $22 price contributes $14. The higher price needs 10 ÷ 14, or 71.4% of the lower price's unit volume, to match contribution under those assumptions.

Northline therefore needs more than a ranking of the two prices. In Vensia, the team can inspect the modeled choice shares and the groups switching away at $22, then explore their reasons. If resistance concerns unclear product performance, the next move may be to improve the proof rather than cut the price. If a commercially important group leaves because of total cost, the team can decide whether the higher margin compensates for that loss.

Use that interpretation to select a price and audience for a live test. Modeled choice shares are not measured website conversion rates; the live test determines whether actual unit volume and contribution clear the threshold.

Read Aaru's validation in its original units

Aaru's September 2026 population-simulation evaluation reports 13,727 answer shares from 2,993 questions across 186 studies. Its unadjusted mean absolute error is 3.53 percentage points, with each question given equal weight in the reported mean. It also reports total variation distance, which measures how far an entire response distribution differs from the reference. These are vendor-reported evaluations, with their own populations and scoring conditions.

EY describes a separate partnered pilot comparing Aaru outputs with a 3,600-person global wealth survey on 53 single-select questions. EY reports a median Spearman correlation of 0.90 and a 7.1 percentage-point root mean squared error. Correlation measures how well the ordering agrees; it is not a claim that 90% of future purchases will be predicted correctly. EY also reports weaker agreement on inheritance planning, recommendation likelihood and portfolio-review frequency. Its account corroborates that pilot as a customer and partner, rather than providing an independent product-wide audit.

Our synthetic-user evidence page reports task-specific comparisons and discrepancies against human research. The cases use their own units and do not supply a matched Northline study against Aaru.

For this purchase, ask both teams for evidence about choice shares and price comparisons in a relevant audience. A strong result on another subject can inform your assessment without settling this one.

The next customer test starts with the offers and margin

Choose Vensia when you want our team to take a pricing question through audience construction, research and interpretation, with an interactive report and follow-up questions. Start with the offers, current alternative and economics that make a difference worth acting on. You do not need a finished questionnaire.

Ask Aaru to demonstrate the same output and specify who designs the study, interprets responses and handles revisions. If your comparison also includes a provider's result-level confidence model, our Vensia vs Simile guide explains that separate decision.

Use our synthetic research brief template to put both complete offers, the current alternative and the contribution threshold on the same page. In a Vensia introduction, we can scope the modeled comparison and the actual customer test needed to evaluate price and contribution.
